Skipjack Tuna Becomes North Sulawesi's Largest Fishery Export Commodity with a Volume of 4.8 Million Kg

The export volume of skipjack tuna throughout 2024 reached 4.8 million kilograms (kg), making it the largest compared to other fishery commodity exports. I Wayan Kertanegara, Head of the North Sulawesi Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Center (Barantin Sulut), revealed that Japan is the largest market for this commodity. “This year, there are three fishery commodities with very promising export volumes, namely skipjack tuna, tuna, and canned tuna,” said Wayan.
Besides skipjack tuna, Wayan mentioned other leading fishery commodities, including tuna, canned tuna, fresh yellowfin tuna, and tuna loin. “In terms of frequency, skipjack tuna is among the top 10 commodities from North Sulawesi. The frequency reached 224 export instances,” explained Wayan. According to him, before being exported, fishery products must meet the standards of the destination country to maintain product competitiveness and acceptance in the destination country. “All export commodities must comply with the SOPs set by the government and the destination country,” he stated.
