In a bid to enhance the export value of agricultural and plantation commodities such as palm oil, cocoa, coffee, and rubber, the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs (Kemenko Perekonomian) are developing an integrated supply chain traceability system. This initiative responds to global market dynamics and non-tariff measures imposed by consumer countries. The system, known as the National Dashboard for Sustainable Commodity Data and Information of Indonesia, aims to provide comprehensive traceability from upstream to downstream. The operational framework for this system was established through the issuance of Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Decree No. 178 of 2024, which led to the formation of an expert team and a technical committee. These bodies will oversee the implementation of the dashboard. Speaking at the Workshop on Accelerating the Readiness of the National Dashboard for Sustainable Commodity Data and Information on Tuesday, 4 June 2024, in Bali, Director General of Plantations, Andi Nur Alam Syah, emphasized that the National Dashboard is expected to synchronize data and information across the entire supply chain. He noted that the workshop is crucial for accelerating the development and operationalization of the dashboard, which is slated for launch in early September 2024, ahead of the 3rd Joint Task Force Meetings scheduled for mid-September in Brussels, Belgium.
Andi Nur explained that the creation of this system is driven by market access policies for Indonesian commodities such as palm oil, rubber, cocoa, coffee, meat, and wood to the European Union. The system focuses on traceability, legality, deforestation-free practices, and sustainability, which will be fully implemented by 30 December 2024 for industries and exporters, and by June 2025 for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), farmers, and smallholders. He stressed the importance of the expert team and technical committee in guiding the technical substance of the Joint Task Force Meetings in each workstream. The goal is to build solidarity among technical teams in identifying progress, strategic initiatives, and overcoming roadblocks in the dashboard's implementation. "We must collectively oversee the acceleration of the national dashboard's progress in each technical field and prepare for subsequent follow-ups," concluded Andi Nur.
