President Joko Widodo Inaugurates the Sepaku Semoi Dam to Ensure Clean Water Supply in IKN

The inauguration of the Sepaku Semoi Dam by President Joko Widodo in North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province, on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, marks a significant milestone in the government's efforts to address the availability of clean water and the increasing demand for it. The project, which began construction in 2020 and was completed this year at a cost of IDR 836 billion, signifies a crucial step forward in providing a solution to the water needs not only for the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) but also for parts of Balikpapan City. With a capacity of 16 million cubic meters and covering an area of 322 hectares, the Sepaku Semoi Dam is expected to provide raw water for drinking water in the IKN and partially for Balikpapan City, ensuring a stable and guaranteed water supply for daily needs.

This inauguration underscores the government's commitment to sustainable infrastructure development to enhance the quality of life and well-being of the people. The Sepaku Semoi Dam is anticipated to not only contribute to reducing flood risks in the surrounding areas but also to provide economic benefits to the local community through the development of agriculture and fisheries sectors. President Widodo, along with several ministers and officials, attended the inauguration, highlighting the importance of collaboration and commitment to providing essential infrastructure to improve the livelihoods of the people.
