Governor of Lampung Develops Marine Sector Investment in West Coast Regency

Governor of Lampung, Arinal Djunaidi, announced plans to attract investment and develop the marine sector in Pesisir Barat Regency. He highlighted that, in addition to tourism and surfing, Pesisir Barat has significant potential in the marine sector. The provincial government of Lampung will soon focus on attracting investment and developing this sector in Pesisir Barat. Arinal mentioned discussions with investors about tapping into the tuna fish potential in Krui, aiming to transform Pesisir Barat by facilitating measured tuna fishing. Fresh tuna will be processed locally in Krui for export and domestic consumption, with cold storage facilities provided by the investment. The specific investment amounts will be further discussed with investors and other relevant parties.

In addition to tuna, Pesisir Barat is known for its lobster production, with even Vietnam receiving shipments from the region. Plans include cultivating lobsters in designated areas around Teluk Lampung, creating environments that mimic their natural habitat for sustainable growth. The governor emphasized that attracting investment and developing key sectors like marine resources could significantly boost the local economy. The province has already experimented with freshwater lobster cultivation in floating net cages in Teluk Semaka, near Bandar Lampung, and Bengkunat Pesisir Barat. In 2023, frozen slipper lobster from Lampung was exported, with a volume of 25.3 tons valued at IDR 10.4 billion. Governor Arinal reiterated that ongoing efforts to bring investment into the regencies to manage regional potentials aim to ensure economic growth and prosperity for the community.
