The Indonesian government is intensifying efforts to boost its super-priority destinations to enhance the global tourism competitiveness index, which rose to 32 in 2021 from the previous position of 44. Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, highlighted strategic measures taken to prepare these super-priority destinations, emphasizing their readiness during a visit to Serangan Beach, Denpasar.
The goal is to elevate Indonesia's tourism index, aiming to reach the 29th position among 117 countries in the 2024 announcement by Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) conducted by the World Bank biennially. In 2021, Indonesia's tourism competitiveness index surpassed neighboring ASEAN countries like Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines. These super-priority destinations are integral to the government's "10 New Balis" program, designed not only to attract tourists but also to foster a creative economic ecosystem involving local communities. Sandiaga Uno emphasized the dual role of these destinations in both tourism appeal and the stimulation of local economic creativity.
