Dialogue with SME Owners in East Java, Vice Minister of Trade Jerry: SMEs are the Pillar of Indonesia's Economy

Deputy Minister of Trade Jerry Sambuaga highlighted the pivotal role of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia's economy during a dialogue session with MSME stakeholders in East Java. The government is committed to supporting MSMEs nationwide, offering various assistance programs accessible to entrepreneurs across different industries.Accompanied by the Head of the Department of Industry and Trade (Disperindag) of East Java, Iwan, Deputy Minister Jerry emphasized the importance of facilitating the advancement of MSMEs. This includes providing technical guidance on product development, entrepreneurship training, marketing strategies, digital payment digitization, facilitating microcredit (KUR), and halal certification.Halal certification, essential not only for food and beverage businesses but also for the fashion industry, was highlighted by Deputy Minister Jerry. Collaboration between the Ministry of Trade and the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) from the Ministry of Religious Affairs allows for exhibitions like the Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW) to showcase halal-certified fashion products.


The government has initiated partnerships with modern retailers, local markets, and the hospitality sector to enhance the competitiveness and sales of MSMEs. These collaborative efforts aim to bolster the presence of MSMEs in increasingly competitive markets.Deputy Minister Jerry emphasized the government's support for MSMEs through regulations such as Minister of Trade Regulation No. 31 of 2023. This regulation addresses e-commerce, minimum pricing for imported finished goods, business legality, product standardization, and technical requirements.Additionally, he encouraged MSMEs to explore domestic and international product exhibitions to expand their market reach, facilitated by the Ministry of Trade's trade representatives across five continents.Meanwhile, Iwan, the Head of Disperindag in East Java, revealed significant domestic and international trade missions and transactions conducted in East Java. These efforts aimed to promote trade and investment, totaling IDR 10.17 trillion in domestic missions and IDR 1.3 trillion in international transactions between 2019 and 2023.Following the dialogue with MSME stakeholders in East Java, Deputy Minister Jerry visited the Export Center Surabaya (ECS), which provides various services to businesses, including export consultations, buyer inquiries, business intelligence, trade agreement utilization, and business deal negotiations.
