The Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (Kemenkop) and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) are finalizing a survey aimed at collecting data on the number of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as well as cooperatives across Indonesia. Siti Azizah, Deputy for Entrepreneurship at the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, stated that the survey commenced in 2021 utilizing a specialized application. According to Tempo.co, the survey conducted in 2022 covered 240 districts and cities in Indonesia, while in 2023, it extended to 215 different districts and cities. In total, the survey successfully recorded data from 13.4 million MSMEs. This data comprises 9.1 million businesses during the 2021-2022 survey period and an additional 4.3 million businesses in 2023.
Kemenkop prioritizes completing the survey in potential areas such as Central Java, East Java, and West Java provinces before expanding to other regions in Indonesia. The survey involves identifying entrepreneurs, business activities, marketing factors, production, finance, and human resources, with approximately 100 questions. One of the inquiries pertains to the ownership of the Business Identification Number (NIB). Kemenkop plans to integrate this data with the Ministry of Investment or the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM). However, challenges arise in data collection in remote areas of Indonesia, such as Mentawai and Papua. Currently, 59 districts or cities remain inaccessible to the survey due to logistical constraints. Nevertheless, the survey aims to provide accurate data for the development and regulation of businesses in Indonesia.
