Collaboration between BPJPH, Textile Industry, and Designers Launches Indonesia Global Halal Fashion

The Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag), alongside textile industry players and designers, is set to launch the Indonesia Global Halal Fashion (IGHF) during the Indonesia Fashion Week, scheduled for Thursday, March 28, 2024. Muhammad Aqil Irham, Head of BPJPH, emphasized that the launch of IGHF aims to drive the development of Indonesia's Muslim fashion industry. He stated that IGHF is envisioned as a strategic platform to promote and strengthen the fashion industry, positioning Indonesia as a global hub for Muslim fashion. Aqil highlighted that the Muslim fashion ecosystem begins with upstream sectors related to raw material access, production, branding, exhibitions, and promotions. Starting from certified halal textile products, the initiative aims to facilitate the production of Muslim fashion, further supported by optimal promotion.

Aqil affirmed BPJPH's strong support for the development of halal textiles, crucial raw materials for Indonesian designers in producing Muslim fashion. He acknowledged businesses committed to producing halal textile products, despite ongoing halal certification obligations until October 17, 2026. He stressed that the journey begins with the development of halal-certified textiles. Halal-certified textiles, according to Aqil, are then crafted into Muslim fashion by skilled Indonesian artisans. He expressed hope that Indonesian Muslim fashion could penetrate international markets, particularly in OIC countries, the Middle East, and Europe, given their substantial potential. Aqil underscored the need to capitalize on this potential seriously, especially as Indonesia ranks third globally in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator (GIEI) according to the SGIE Report released by Dinarstandard in 2023. Although Indonesia maintains its second position in the halal food industry, it retains the third position in the fashion and mode indicator, trailing behind Turkey and Malaysia.
