The Government Targets 14.3 Million Foreign Tourists to Visit Indonesia in 2024

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) is striving to achieve 14.3 million foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in 2024. Minister Sandiaga Uno stressed the ongoing commitment to driving the tourism and creative economy sectors to make substantial contributions to the economy and employment opportunities in the year 2024. Besides targeting 14.3 million foreign tourist arrivals, the Indonesian government is also aiming for USD 15 billion in foreign exchange earnings from international tourists, coupled with domestic tourist movements reaching 1.5 billion. Minister Sandiaga Uno announced, "We anticipate foreign tourist numbers for the upcoming year (2024) to fall between 9.5 million and 14.3 million visits," following the National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) for tourism and the creative economy (Parekraf) in 2023.

In 2023, the count of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia totaled 9.49 million visits, surpassing the government's 2023 target of 8.5 million foreign tourist visits. To meet the 2024 target for foreign tourist arrivals, the government is exploring partnerships with various international airlines to expand flight routes to international airports in Indonesia, including the West Java International Airport (BIJB) Kertajati. Sandiaga highlighted, "Our efforts include not only introducing direct flights to Singapore, Malaysia, and several other destinations but also exploring connections to Middle Eastern countries. According to Sandiaga, throughout 2023, the tourism and creative economy sectors have significantly contributed to Indonesia's economic growth. "The Parekraf sector is approaching nearly 4% and sectors contributing to job creation should bring more economic impacts to Indonesia, especially in achieving Indonesia Emas 2045," he expounded.
