The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), in collaboration with the South Sulawesi regional government, has officially opened direct access for the export of fisheries products through direct flights from Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, Makassar, to Hong Kong. The inauguration was marked by sending 4,126 kilograms of fisheries products, including live groupers, dancing shrimp, dried sea cucumbers, and fish stomachs, to Hong Kong. The Head of the Big Fish Quarantine, Quality Control, and Fisheries Product Safety (BKIPM) Center in Makassar, expressed that the direct export access for fisheries could provide cost and time efficiency for export activities from South Sulawesi. This direct call is expected to provide cost and time efficiency for export activities from South Sulawesi.
Furthermore, she stated that BKIPM ensures the quarantine, quality, and safety assurance systems for fishery products. They also guarantee that all exported products have undergone fish quarantine and quality inspections by competent officers. This also makes exports from South Sulawesi to Hong Kong more effective and efficient. On the other hand, a cooperation agreement was also signed between the South Sulawesi provincial government and district/city governments to ensure the success of direct exports. According to her, good communication, coordination, and cooperation can facilitate the export of fishery commodities to various countries and support the economic growth of the maritime and fisheries sector in the region. She hopes that in the future, more business actors can benefit from this convenience. This aligns with the directive of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, who at the time requested his staff to facilitate fisheries business actors in mentoring, certification, potential market profiling, and strengthening their role as quality assurance for products produced by business actors.
