Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Collaborates with Representatives to Distribute 1,000 Fresh Fish Packages in Maluku

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), in collaboration with BP2MHKP Ambon and Member of DPR-RI Commission IV Saadiyah Uluputty, conducted the distribution of 1,000 packages of fresh fish, totaling 3,000 kilograms, in the villages of Iha and Kulur, Maluku, as part of the Quality Quarantine Month 2023 activities. This initiative, with the theme "The Role of BP2MHKP in Ensuring High-Quality, Microplastic-Free Healthy Fish," aims to prevent stunting in children and improve overall community nutrition, particularly focusing on nurturing a generation of healthy and intelligent young individuals. Additionally, it encourages the consumption of safe and nutritious fish, with the distributed fish primarily being tuna and skipjack, both rich in protein.

Saadiyah Uluputty, a Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, underscored the importance of promoting fish consumption among children and adolescents in response to the high stunting rate in Maluku. Despite the region's high fish consumption, the prevalence of stunting among toddlers reached 26.1% in 2022, ranking Maluku 13th nationwide in this regard. Saadiyah highlighted that fish, being a source of high protein and omega-3 fatty acids, supports brain development, contributing to children's cognitive development. This initiative serves as a crucial step in addressing Maluku's stunting issue while encouraging healthy fish consumption practices among the local population.
