The Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for West Kalimantan Province, has reported a trade surplus of USD 987.46 million in West Kalimantan for the period of January to August 2023. West Kalimantan's exports during this period reached USD 1,274.82 million, while imports amounted to USD 287.36 million. Based on this data, West Kalimantan's trade balance recorded a surplus of USD 987.46 million. The value of West Kalimantan's exports from January to August 2023 amounted to USD 1,274.82 million. Meanwhile, West Kalimantan's imports from January to August 2023 totaled USD 287.36 million. As a result, West Kalimantan's trade balance has a surplus of USD 987.46 million. West Kalimantan's exports of USD 1,274.82 million were contributed by three main commodities, namely inorganic chemicals (HS28) at USD 530.77 million, animal/vegetable fats & oils (HS15) at USD 339.51 million, and various chemical products (HS38) at USD 99.12 million.
For HS28 and HS15, compared to the same period the previous year, each experienced contractions of -2.90% and -37.91%, respectively. On the other hand, HS38 saw a significant increase, reaching 349.12%. West Kalimantan's main export destinations were India, China, and Malaysia, with values of USD 429.32 million, USD 284.62 million, and USD 139.43 million. The values for the contraction in these three countries all decreased compared to the same period the previous year, with a decrease of 15.85% to India, 51.11% to China, and 42.67% to Malaysia. Regarding West Kalimantan's imports, out of the total value of USD 287.36 million, the three main commodities were machinery/mechanical appliances (HS84) at USD 97.52 million, mineral fuels (HS27) at USD 80.66 million, and electrical machinery/equipment (HS85) at USD 19.55 million. When looking at the three main importing countries of West Kalimantan, China accounted for USD 119.14 million, Malaysia for USD 84.73 million, and Singapore for USD 22.01 million.
