The Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), has declared that the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ) has gained recognition as one of the world-class sport tourism destinations. The Mandalika region has now reached an excellent stage. All MotoGP enthusiasts are familiar with Mandalika. We can see that the flow of international and domestic tourists is also improving as stated during a MotoGP press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. It was also mentioned that both Indonesians and foreign tourists have become acquainted with Mandalika in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, since hosting motor racing events such as the World Superbike and MotoGP.
Furthermore, Mandalika has also hosted various national and international sports events, including the Shell Eco Marathon, L'Étape cycling race, TNI Marathon, and several water sports activities. Additionally, Mandalika offers a range of marine tourism destinations with captivating beaches and underwater attractions. Therefore, besides hosting sports events, sport tourism is used to promote tourism or introduce attractive attractions in the area.
