As the fourth-largest coffee producer globally, following Brazil, Vietnam, and Colombia, Indonesia possesses significant potential to further expand the coffee market worldwide, particularly in the European region. According to the 2023 Indonesian Statistics Report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's coffee production reached 794.8 thousand tons in 2022. Director of Marketing at the Plantation Holding Company, stated that at present, 96% to 98% of coffee production in Indonesia comes from farmers, while the contribution of the Plantation Holding Company (PTPN) has remained at only 2.5%. In the last two years, PTPN has been actively collaborating with various stakeholders, each playing their respective roles as stated during a visit to the Banaran Coffee Factory on Monday (October 2, 2023). The Banaran Coffee Factory is the oldest coffee factory in Semarang Regency, established in 1911, and it continues to produce coffee to this day. In 2022, the Banaran Coffee Factory produced 216 tons of dried robusta coffee for export to several countries, including Italy.
The company have significant potential for continuous growth. Currently, Indonesia are the fourth largest in the world, after Brazil, Vietnam, and Colombia. Ethiopia ranks fifth. Therefore, if we establish cooperation, we can become a major force in the global coffee industry. This aligns with the thoughts of Ethiopia's Ambassador to Indonesia, after witnessing the coffee production process at the Banaran Coffee Factory in Gemawang Village, Jambu District, Semarang Regency.
