Indonesia's Car Exports Reach 337,312 Units by August 2023, Up by 18%

From January to August 2023, Indonesia's export of completely built-up (CBU) cars saw a significant surge, rising by 18% compared to the same period the previous year. Data from the Indonesian Motor Vehicle Industry Association (Gaikindo) revealed that the total export of CBU cars reached an impressive 337,312 units, marking a substantial increase from the 285,933 units exported during the same period in the preceding year. This growth in exports was driven by several key manufacturers. PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) notably increased its exports by 13.7%, sending out 109,501 units, while PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia (MMKSI) achieved a remarkable 59.7% rise, exporting 56,433 units. In contrast, PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) experienced a slight decline of 7.5% in exports, with a total of 82,052 units.

The Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics at the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), Taufiek Bawazier, expressed optimism about the automotive sector's growth. He highlighted that in the second quarter, the automotive sector witnessed a 9.66% growth rate, surpassing overall economic growth. Taufiek cited the sector's productivity in exhibitions and the recognition of opportunities in both domestic and international markets as driving factors. Kemenperin's target for 2023 is to export 500,000 units by year-end, a goal they believe is attainable with continued efforts, including international exhibitions organized by Gaikindo, contributing to the sector's value enhancement. As of August 2023, exports have already surpassed the previous year, reaching 337,000 units, further bolstering their optimism for the remainder of the year.
