Increased Turnover and Indirect Impact: The Global Example of Made in Italy from the Sea

The Genoa Boat Show, considered the most spectacular and comprehensive event among the major European recreational boating exhibitions, has drawn significant attention. The presence of key government officials and Giorgia Meloni, who highlighted the strategic importance of the sea for Italy, emphasized the exceptional nature of this flagship event for the Italian maritime industry. The city of Genoa has been virtually paralyzed in recent days due to the tens of thousands of passionate enthusiasts, industry professionals, and buyers who have flocked to the event, which runs until Tuesday, the 26th.

The midway point of the exhibition provides a high-definition snapshot of the flourishing state of Italian shipbuilding. Confindustria Nautica executives arrived with the ambition to present data and financial results that surpass the already positive figures of the past 4-5 years. Their aspirations were fulfilled as official 2022 numbers revealed a robust and articulate performance: EUR 7.3 billion in revenue (a 20% growth) and an export value of EUR 3.7 billion, a historical high that reaffirms Italy's enviable position on the global stage. Notably, more than 400 of the 821 'over 24 meters' yachts produced worldwide are conceived, designed, and built by Italian companies and organizations. This industry contributes 6.1 billion euros to the national GDP, a significant increase from the previous 2.89% to the current 3.23%, and it also experiences an upward employment trend, providing jobs for 200,000 people.

The visual spectacle of Genoa immersed in the sea, including Piazzale Kennedy, the Darsena, the Marina, and Palazzo Blu, has captivated attendees at the 63rd edition. The exhibition layout features over a thousand boats, primarily in the water, framing the displays of the most prestigious brands in the nautical world, with 187 novelties generating immense curiosity among visitors. Despite some morning inclement weather that partially disrupted the Millevele Iren 2023 event, the Genoa Boat Show continues to attract visitors eager to explore the best of the Italian and international nautical industry.
