The Ministry of Industry (MoI) has dispatched five containers of used cooking oil, totaling 200 metric tons, to the United States, utilizing the well-traceable System Informasi Minyak Jelantah (Simijel) digital information system. The hybrid export release occurred at three locations: the MoI Office in Jakarta, CV Artha Metro Oil Warehouse in Tangerang, and the Veriflux Office House in Houston, Texas, USA, on Thursday. This commodity will be used to produce eco-friendly fuels, including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) or green aviation fuel and Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) or green diesel. Used cooking oil is a primary source of raw material for the green fuel industry. Well-traceable used cooking oil has become the new standard for accepting such products in the European and US markets. This is because green fuel produced from well-traceable used cooking oil has very low net carbon emissions, originating from the implementation of the circular economy principle, which is 'from waste to energy'.
Traceability is also a prerequisite because buyers require assurance that the origin of the used cooking oil is genuinely from the used cooking oil production point rather than a mixture of fresh oils or other oils and/or from illegal sources. Simijel is a digital platform based on geotag location data developed by the Indonesian Used Cooking Oil Exporters Association (AEMJI) in collaboration with PT. Incore System Solutions for traceability in the used cooking oil supply chain. During the event, the data integration process between the Simijel digital platform and Veriflux, a US-based information technology platform provider that manages supply chain databases, including used cooking oil collection in the US. The Simijel-Veriflux partnership in this digital platform integration will strengthen market access for used cooking oil commodities from Indonesia while ensuring direct traceability data access from exporting companies to authenticated end-users of used cooking oil raw materials in North America (end-to-end data exchange).
