The utilization of technology through the industrialization program is seen as a significant boost to Indonesia's furniture and craft exports. Abdul Sobur, the chairman of the Presidium of the Association of Indonesian Furniture and Craft Industries (HIMKI), highlighted this during the International Manufacturing Components (IFMAC) & Woodworking Machinery Exhibition (WOODMAC) in Jakarta on September 20, 2023. Sobur commended the government's support, such as the 15% reimbursement for the purchase of machinery from abroad and a 25% reimbursement for domestic machinery purchases. He also expressed support for the government's efforts to develop technology that supports the furniture and craft industry, emphasizing the need for domestic machinery manufacturers to maximize the industrialization program.
Sobur stated, "Our goal is to achieve a national furniture export increase by the end of 2024, reaching USD 5 billion or around IDR 80 trillion. This cannot be achieved without technological support." From January 2022 to September 2022, furniture and craft product exports reached USD 1.9 billion. Sobur emphasized that technology would be the cornerstone for boosting productivity and enhancing the quality of furniture and crafts, thereby facilitating increased exports.
