The Director General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia,has announced that Indonesia has a surplus of 348 thousand tons of chicken meat. Indonesia currently meets its domestic demand with chicken meat production reaching approximately 3.85 million tons per year. Meanwhile, based on the prognosis data of availability and national consumption needs for chicken meat, which is around 3.5 million tons per year, there is a surplus of 348 thousand tons. The significant achievements in livestock exports from 2022 to the third quarter of 2023. During this period, Indonesia successfully penetrated the Singaporean market, and export agreements for Indonesian products were established with the UAE. This means that over the past few years, the process of increasing added value and competitiveness, including downstream industries, has continued to align with the needs of entrepreneurs and consumer preferences. Furthermore, the Ministry of Agriculture is promoting increased exports through various policies, especially those aimed at improving the quality of livestock products. These policies include the Avian Influenza-free compartment system, the implementation of Good Breeding Practices, adherence to Animal Welfare Principles, and food safety assurance through Veterinary Certification.
Export performance data for livestock commodities for the period of January to July 2023 (tentative figures), amounting to USD 790.7 million, equivalent to IDR 11.8 trillion, with export value growth of 9.56% and export volume growth of 15.36% compared to the same period in 2022. PT Suja's successful export of hatching eggs (HE) to Myanmar for the third time as an achievement also coincides with the 187th anniversary of the Livestock and Animal Health Month. It is also hoped that this achievement can inspire farmers, especially poultry farmers, to remain dedicated as food heroes of Indonesia. PT Suja exported 58,500 HE eggs, which resulted in the production of 18,000 Day Old Chick (DOC) Parent Stock (PS). These exported eggs are of the highest quality and come from the best-performing breeding stock. Exports are conducted while prioritising domestic needs, following the President's directive to boost the production of commodities that are currently in surplus to seize export opportunities.
