Exports of nickel ore-derived products have reached a total of USD 16.54 billion or the equivalent of IDR 253.8 trillion during the first half of 2023. This information is based on a report from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves). Over the past two years, there has been a significant increase in the trend of exporting nickel ore-derived products. In 2020, the export value of these products reached USD 11.69 billion or IDR 182.45 trillion. Throughout 2021, the trend of exporting nickel ore-derived products continued to rise, reaching a total of USD 22.53 billion. Last year, due to the production of iron steel, nickel matte, and MHP, the exports reached USD 34.28 billion as stated by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, during the National Ikaxa Seminar in Jakarta. According to The Minister’s estimations, the trend of exporting nickel ore-derived products is expected to continue increasing in the next two years, especially following the realisation of plans for battery production and the first electric cars in the country. By 2025, we will already be producing lithium and electric cars, and the exports may have doubled, creating a significant economic impact for Indonesia.
