Erwin Dwiyana, Director of Marketing at the Directorate General for Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fisheries Products (PDSPKP) under the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), has reported that Indonesia's fishery exports from January to June 2023 amounted to approximately USD 2.8 billion. Based on export value, the most exported commodities after shrimp are tuna and tiger prawns, which are predominantly shipped to Japan. KKP records show that from January to April 2023, shrimp exports reached USD 567 million, followed by tuna-bonito-mackerel commodities with an export value of USD 282 million and squid-octopus-cuttlefish with an export value of USD 195 million. Squid, octopus, and cuttlefish are mostly exported to China, along with seaweed commodities. He mentioned that Indonesia's fishery production potential could reach 12 million tons per year. This figure is expected to continue growing with various activities in the capture fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
In November, a series of Foreign Buyers Missions will be held to open access for potential shrimp buyers from various countries. This event is a collaboration between KKP and the Swiss Import Promotion Program (SIPPO), aimed at bringing potential shrimp importers to Indonesia to visit shrimp processing units directly. From there, agreements will be made that can certainly open up access and increase our exports. Erwin stated that to maximise the export of Indonesian fishery products, KKP has developed the slogan "Indonesia Seafood: Naturally Diverse," which depicts Indonesia as naturally possessing a variety of fish types for export. Through KKP, the government is also promoting sustainable fishery production to ensure that Indonesia's fishery potential can be enjoyed by future generations.
