The Directorate General of Customs and Excise has enabled the export of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) products to five continents, namely Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa, and America. Nirwala Dwi Heryanto, the Director of Communication and User Guidance at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DGCE), stated that they are currently supporting 3,940 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through export clinics in the East Java region as an effort to boost export activities to these five continents. This includes 810 exporting MSMEs, whether they are direct exporters, indirect exporters, or working through third parties. He emphasized that MSMEs play a crucial role in driving national economic growth and supporting economic stability. Nirwala explained that Government Regulation (GR) Number 7 of 2021 mandates both the central and regional governments to protect, facilitate, and empower MSMEs through training and the provision of export facilities. With GR 7, it is clear that President Joko Widodo has instructed to provide protection, facilitate, and empower MSMEs. He also mentioned that there are 122 MSMEs receiving facilities under the Small and Medium-Sized Industry Export Destination Import Facilitation (KITE IKM) program in the East Java region.

Nirwala stated that the KITE IKM facility grants exemptions from import duties and Value Added Tax (VAT) for imported raw materials and machinery used to produce export products. Furthermore, the Customs and Excise agency also offers an Export Clinic Program, which includes education, literacy, assistance, and coordination by the DGCE for MSMEs, both those already exporting to increase their exports and those new to the export scene. Nirwala emphasised the need to expand markets for MSME products to become global players. The expansion of market access, especially in the global market and access to export market information, is a challenge for MSMEs that we need to support by providing protection and facilitating their growth and encouraging them to export.
