June 2023 Sees Plantation Commodity Exports Worth IDR 58.45 Trillion.

The Indonesian government is actively promoting the development of the agriculture sector, particularly in the field of plantation crops, from upstream to downstream. This effort has led to increased export values in various commodities such as palm oil, coffee, cocoa, and others, reaching IDR 58.45 trillion by June 2023. To enhance competitiveness through this value-added process, effective marketing strategies are essential to penetrate various markets. In line with these objectives, the Ministry of Agriculture, specifically the Directorate General of Plantations, organized discussions during the 2023 Perekbunan Expo (Bunex). These discussions covered topics like accelerating infrastructure funding for palm oil plantations and strengthening the governance of the national plantation sector. Director General of Plantations, Andi Nur Alam Syah, emphasized that these discussions aim to strengthen plantation value chains for global economic resilience.

Furthermore, Andi Nur highlighted the importance of the BPDPKS financing model, which can serve as an ideal model for other plantation commodities. He also stressed the need to revitalize core-plasma partnership models and the significance of data as a foundation for informed policymaking and commodity development based on traceability. In addition, the role of plantation downstream activities in increasing export value was underscored. The Ministry of Industry supports the value addition of plantation commodities, with the agro-industry sector contributing significantly to non-oil and gas industrial GDP. Indonesia's major plantation commodities include coconut, palm oil, cocoa, coffee, tea, and essential oils, with palm oil and its derivatives being the country's primary export products. These efforts are essential for promoting innovation, competitiveness, and collaboration among all stakeholders in the Indonesian plantation sector, ultimately advancing the country's plantations, benefiting local farmers, and addressing both national and global challenges.
