Exploring the Promising Mining Potential in the Division of Central Java Province to Bring Prosperity to the People of Wonogiri District

Wonogiri Regency in Indonesia's potential mining sector is attracting attention, especially in the context of its proposed expansion as part of the Special Region of Surakarta within Central Java. This interest arises due to the authority allocation defined in Law Number 23 of 2014, which predominantly places power over energy and mineral resources in the hands of central and provincial governments, limiting the role of regency governments. Wonogiri Regency stands out for its substantial mining potential, particularly in its karst landscapes, covering nearly 18.6% of its total area. These karst areas are part of the larger Karst Pegunungan Sewu region, encompassing three regencies, and have been utilized for research and education, with the establishment of the World Karst Museum to foster understanding of the region's geological wealth. Additionally, Wonogiri possesses significant deposits of both metallic and non-metallic minerals, including gold, copper, galena, manganese, limestone, and various others, offering substantial potential for economic development.

While the mining potential in Wonogiri holds promise for economic growth, it is essential to ensure that any mining activities are conducted sustainably, considering environmental preservation and equitable benefits for the local community. This region's rich geological resources present both opportunities and responsibilities, necessitating careful planning and regulation to maximize the positive impact on the local population while safeguarding the environment.
