The Agricultural Quarantine Office in Padang has conducted inspections on mangosteen fruits destined for export to China. The Head of the Padang Quarantine, stated that a total of 7,092 kilograms of fruit had been shipped as of August 2023. The inspection results revealed no Plant Pest Organisms (PPOs) of concern to China based on the mangosteen export protocol to China. This allows for the issuance of the Phytosanitary Certificate, which is a crucial requirement for the export process. This success is good news for agricultural entrepreneurs in West Sumatra and demonstrates a positive step towards increasing agricultural product exports. In 2022, the last export took place in December, coinciding with the end of the harvest season. Nevertheless, increased monitoring and inspections by the Padang Agricultural Quarantine continue to be enhanced to ensure the acceptability of commodities abroad.
Stringent inspections are conducted to ensure that the mangosteen fruit exported to China is free from any PPOs/PPOPs that could harm plants and the environment in the destination country. This aligns with efforts to maintain the quality and reputation of Indonesian agricultural products in international markets. The government, farmers, and businesses in West Sumatra are continuing to enhance synergy and hope that this success will open up greater export opportunities for mangosteen and other agricultural products in international markets, including China, which is a potential and large market. With the issued Phytosanitary Certificate, agricultural entrepreneurs can proceed with the mangosteen export process to China with confidence and the hope of increasing regional income and economic contributions. This step is expected to have a positive impact on the growth of the agricultural sector in Padang and enhance the region's economy.
