Indonesian Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan, accompanied President Joko Widodo in a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, in New Delhi, India, during the G20 Summit on Saturday, September 9th. The meeting covered various topics, including development, economics, Indonesia's registration process as a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and ASEAN-Netherlands cooperation.
Minister Zulkifli Hasan stated that the discussions included bilateral relations across multiple sectors, with a focus on Indonesia's push for collaboration in energy transition and low-carbon technology development. They also discussed the European Union Deforestation-free Regulation (EUDR), which Indonesia aims to eliminate as it could hinder the export of Indonesian agricultural and plantation products to the European Union.
In the period from January to July 2023, the total trade between Indonesia and the Netherlands amounted to USD 2.73 billion, with Indonesia exporting USD 2.17 billion worth of goods to the Netherlands and importing USD 559.60 million from the Netherlands. Indonesia enjoyed a surplus of USD 1.61 billion during this period. In 2022, the total trade between the two countries reached USD 6.23 billion, with Indonesia exporting USD 5.38 billion and importing USD 855.50 million worth of goods from the Netherlands, resulting in a trade surplus of USD 4.52 billion for Indonesia.
Indonesia's main exports to the Netherlands include industrial monocarboxylic fatty acids, palm oil and its fractions, palm kernel cake, copra, and saturated acyclic monocarboxylic acids. Imports from the Netherlands to Indonesia comprise paper or cardboard, plastic waste and scrap, processed food, butter, other fats, and onions.
