Transportation Minister's Goal: Indonesia to Export Electric Vehicles Beyond ASEAN Market

Indonesian Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, asserts the importance of Indonesia actively participating as an exporter of electric motorcycles to the global market. He emphasizes that despite Indonesia being the largest market in ASEAN, it's not sufficient, and not engaging in exports would be a mistake. Budi sees the country's economic strength as the foundation for stimulating export capabilities, especially given the favorable economic conditions. His comments came after witnessing a cooperation agreement between an Indonesian electric motorcycle manufacturer and a Malaysian company to establish distribution networks and electric motorcycle factories in Malaysia.

Budi believes that the establishment of electric motorcycle distribution networks in Malaysia is a significant step in promoting domestic product exports. He hopes that this initiative will serve as a model for other products and encourage efforts to make these products competitive and accessible to foreign markets. Budi also highlights the government's collaborative efforts across various ministries to develop processed product exports, including the construction of the Patimban Port and the Proving Ground facility for testing exported motor vehicles. He stresses the importance of diversifying Indonesia's export portfolio beyond natural resources to enhance economic growth. This statement reflects the Indonesian government's commitment to boosting its export capabilities in the electric motorcycle industry and beyond, recognizing the need to expand its economic horizons beyond reliance on natural resources.
