Sandiaga Uno, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, has set a target for sustainable investments in Indonesia's tourism sector during the ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum (AIPF) to reach 8 billion US dollars or IDR 122.512 trillion. According to the Minister, this target primarily focuses on Indonesia's super-priority destinations, which are being presented during the AIPF's business matching sessions, a part of the ASEAN 2023 Summit agenda. During the event, Sandiaga also welcomed the strengthening of Local Currency Transactions (LCT) cooperation within ASEAN and elaborated on its numerous benefits. He stated that this is highly interconnected because it will benefit Indonesia. As the largest economy in the region, and with our super-priority tourist destinations, if our economy becomes more integrated, we will receive greater benefits for Indonesia. He provided an example of Indonesian tourists visiting ASEAN countries being able to utilise LCT for payments, thanks to the agreed-upon system. Additionally, LCT will enhance economic transaction efficiency and strengthen local currencies against the pressures of the US dollar. As a result, in terms of payments, rupiah stability, increased opportunities, and greater access to financing for SMEs, tourism, and the creative economy.
