Indonesia Achieves USD 6.9 Billion in Halal Product Exports in the First Half of 2023

In the last five years (2018-2022), Indonesia's exports of halal products have steadily increased, showing a growth rate of 4%. In the first half of 2023 alone, exports reached USD 6.90 billion. In 2022, Indonesia's halal product exports amounted to USD 15.87 billion, a 9.83% increase compared to 2021. The Ministry of Trade has been implementing various programs and strategies to boost the marketing of Indonesian products, both domestically and internationally, with a specific focus on developing the export of halal products to global markets.

During the "IKMHunter Goes to Bekasi" event, Didi Sumedi, Director-General of National Export Development, emphasized the significant potential of Indonesia's halal product exports. Indonesia ranks as the fourth-largest sharia economy globally, following Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Indonesia holds the second position for halal food, third for Muslim fashion, and sixth for Islamic finance. With a population of 231 million Muslims, Indonesia has the world's largest Muslim population, making it well-suited for the development of halal products.

To accelerate the export of small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) halal products, the government has established the Indonesia Halal Export Incorporated. This initiative focuses on market access for halal products, export financing, incubation, production, and trade agreements with partner countries. The Ministry of Trade has also undertaken promotional efforts such as participating in international exhibitions and trade missions to countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and India. Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI), scheduled for October 18-22, 2023, both physically and virtually, will serve as a flagship event to promote Indonesian products internationally. Additionally, the Ministry has facilitated halal certification for various sectors, including food and beverages, cosmetics, and skincare products, to enhance competitiveness and support the growth of SMEs.
