The government of West Nusa Tenggara Province is intensifying efforts to cultivate organic vanilla due to the high demand for this commodity in the export market. The Head of the NTB Provincial Trade Office, stated that the current focus is on meeting the demand for organic vanilla. It is reported that buyers from the United States will continue to purchase any amount of organic vanilla produced by farmers in NTB. The Trade Office are still in the process of meeting the demand. Buyers from Lombok have indeed expressed continued interest, so the region has a task to increase production capacity. Based on information received, 1 kilogram of dried organic vanilla is valued at IDR 6 million. Therefore, it is highly desirable to expand the cultivation area for this crop. As for the expansion of cultivation area and production, it falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Agriculture and Plantation. Organic vanilla is indeed a very promising commodity for the export market, especially in the United States.
Meanwhile, NTB Provincial Secretary stated that the NTB Provincial Government has provided support to improve productivity by bringing in vanilla experts from the Plant and Medicine Research Institute. It has been declared that some of the best vanilla in Indonesia comes from NTB. In NTB, vanilla thrives and becomes one of the best, in Lombok-Sumbawa. This shows that there are other potentials with good market value beyond tobacco. Hence, the expansion of organic vanilla cultivation is a priority for the NTB Provincial Government in order to improve the livelihoods of farmers. Moreover, foreign buyers have shown keen interest in NTB's organic vanilla products. The market is wide open, and therefore, the provincial government is striving to meet the demand quota for organic vanilla products abroad.
