West Kalimantan Achieves Export Success with the Largest Contribution from Chemicals

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has reported that West Kalimantan Province (West Kalimantan) recorded a surplus in their trade balance during the January-July 2023 period, with a total surplus reaching 866.05 million United States dollars (US). According to the Head of the Commercial and Services Work Team of BPS West Kalimantan, Martalena, in his statement in Pontianak, Saturday, West Kalimantan's trade balance experienced a surplus in the period, mainly due to West Kalimantan's exports which reached 1,102.00 million US dollars, while the import value was only 235.95 million US dollars. West Kalimantan exports in the January-July 2023 period were dominated by Inorganic Chemicals (HS28) with a contribution of 64.32% or equivalent to 480.07 million US dollars. Followed by Animal/Vegetable Fats & Oils (HS15) and Rubber and Rubber Goods (HS40) with a share of 14.03% and 8.05 percent respectively. Three largest export destinations for West Kalimantan in the same period were India, China, and Malaysia, with a share of 45.77%, 17.92%, and 12.75 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, West Kalimantan's import value in January-July 2023 is dominated by Mineral Fuel (HS27) with a contribution of 30.81% or equivalent to 74.62 million US dollars. Followed by Electrical Machinery/Equipment (HS85) and Mechanical Machinery/Aircraft (HS84) with a share of 16.93% and 14.55%, respectively. Martalena also noted that the three largest countries from which West Kalimantan imports originate are China, Malaysia, and Singapore, with a share of 35.24%, 23.18%, and 15.79%, respectively.
