The Deputy Minister of Trade has stated that Indonesia is targeting a rise in non-oil and gas exports to Australia to reach USD 3.37 billion this year. However, the realisation of non-oil and gas exports to Australia until the first semester of 2023 falls considerably short of this target. The export value target is USD 3.37 billion, and as for 2024, The Ministry is still calculating, with the hope that it will continue to increase. According to data from satudata.kemendag.go.id, Indonesia's non-oil and gas exports to Australia in the first semester of 2023 amounted to USD 1.4 billion. The actual non-oil and gas exports to Australia throughout the previous year were recorded at USD 3.2 billion.
Furthermore, Indonesia and Australia have agreed to establish the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA). Under this agreement, entry costs for 7,000 products will be waived, which is beneficial for SMEs. The Deputy Minister believes this can be utilised by business entities, exporters, and SMEs. The Deputy Minister chose to think of it as one of The Ministry’s priorities. Indonesia held a bilateral meeting with Australia on Monday, August 21, 2023, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting in Semarang, Central Java. During the meeting, both countries discussed and aimed to enhance their trade cooperation, including boosting the export value. In the bilateral meeting, The Deputy Minister and Australia's Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs discussed IA-CEPA, which provides advantages for both countries, such as the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) for professional engineers, an increase in the Working-Holiday Visa (WHV) quota for entry into Australia, and the opening of Australian universities in Indonesia. The Deputy Minister also expressed his appreciation for the increased WHV quota resulting from IA-CEPA, which has grown by 30% from 4,435 to 5,766 individuals for the period of 2022 to 2023.
