The Department of Industry and Trade (Disperindag) of West Java has reported that the value of non-oil and gas exports in its region reached USD 3.07 billion in June 2023, predominantly driven by vehicle and spare parts commodities. The export of vehicle and spare parts commodities contributed around USD 644 million (approximately 21%). Regarding destinations, the top five countries for West Java's exports include the United States, the Philippines, Japan, China, and India. While the vehicle commodities and their components have a significant export value, they also contribute to a high import rate due to the reliance on raw materials from abroad. Nevertheless, the export achievement for June experienced a decline of 7.72% compared to the previous month's figure of USD 3.33 billion.
This decline was due to the influence of major export destinations, such as the United States and Europe, which are still grappling with economic crisis issues. As a result, the observed decrease in exports is not due to the performance of local businesses but rather the declining demand from buyer countries (importers). To address this export decline, he stated that he would encourage entrepreneurs in the province to explore new markets or increase export volumes to countries beyond the United States and Europe.
