Minister of Finance Prepares Regulation for Tax-Free Import of Complete Electric Cars

The Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, is in the process of formulating regulations regarding fiscal incentives to enable tax-free imports of complete electric cars (CBUs). There will be a Minister of Finance regulation later, in accordance with our latest cabinet meeting, as stated by the Minister of Finance after a meeting at the DPR/MPR/DPD RI Building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. However, she couldn't confirm the exact issuance date of the Minister of Finance regulation. She simply emphasised that the policy would be enacted promptly as The Ministry will consider the budget allocation for this year, 2023.

Last month, the Minister of Industry mentioned that the government was preparing regulations to provide incentives to prospective investors intending to bring electric vehicle investments to Indonesia. The Ministry aims for these fiscal incentives to be competitive compared to our competitor countries. For instance, we might completely waive the CBU tax, and we might exempt the Value-Added Tax (VAT). According to him, the plan is currently under formulation, including collaboration with the Ministry of Finance. The President of Indonesia has also given his approval to the plan. In essence, all our fiscal policies must be competitive in comparison to the fiscal policies provided by our competitor countries, particularly within the context of electric vehicles.
