Aceh Has Potential To Develop Lime For Export

Aceh Province has the potential to develop lime for export, especially to meet market demand in the Middle East. Head of the Regional Office of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Customs (DJBC) of Aceh Province, Safuadi in Banda Aceh, Wednesday, said the potential for lime development is still open because it is supported by adequate land availability. In addition, Aceh has an emotional affinity with Muslim-majority Middle Eastern countries. There are only three lime producers in the world, Brazil, Thailand and Vietnam. The Middle East market hopes that there will be producers from Muslim countries like Indonesia and this is certainly an opportunity for Aceh. Safuadi said Aceh could take advantage of the opportunity by developing lime plantations with modern technology. Moreover, agricultural land in Aceh can be planted with anything, including lime.
So far, lime production centres in Aceh such as in Lhoknibong, East Aceh Regency, are only to meet the needs of the local market. In fact, if it is developed properly, it is not impossible for the export market. Safuadi, who is also the Head of the Aceh Representative Ministry of Finance Office, said based on 2018 data, the market value of limes worldwide reached 3.6 billion US dollars or more than Rp50 trillion. In addition to the Middle East, lime export markets include European countries such as Turkey and others. Aceh's agricultural and plantation sector, if well developed and modern, is able to penetrate the export market. Moreover, agricultural and plantation commodities in Aceh have their own uniqueness, which does not exist anywhere else.
