The establishment of a halal industry hub in Indonesia is anticipated to thrive in East Java. Consequently, the active participation of various entities in the Halal SME Expo 2023 in Malang is poised to exert a notably positive impact on the advancement of both the halal industry and the development of SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) in East Java. This sentiment was conveyed by Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in East Java, KH Abdul Halim Soebahar, during the opening address of the Halal SME Expo 2023 on Monday (August 28, 2023).

KH Abdul Halim highlighted that by October 2024, all SMEs are required to possess halal certification. As such, both institutions focused on the development of the halal industry and the empowerment of the Muslim economy, such as the MUI East Java's Economic Empowerment Commission (KPEU), should strive to promote events like the Halal SME Expo.

He emphasized that such efforts would reflect positively on East Java and the MUI East Java's role in inspiring and mobilizing society toward making East Java a focal point of Indonesia's halal industry. KH Abdul Halim elaborated that within MUI East Java, there are two bodies directly engaged with the Muslim economy and the halal industry. Firstly, the Economic Empowerment Commission, led by KH Noor Shodiq Askandar with Deputy KH Abdul Hamid Wahid. Secondly, the Halal Industry Development Institution.

These institutions, he noted, are pillars of MUI East Java's operations and play a pivotal role in enhancing East Java's position as a leader in halal industry development. As a result, he aspired for East Java to achieve exceptional performance and for MUI East Java to be recognized nationally for its outstanding contributions in the realm of SMEs and halal industry development. Ultimately, this aligns with the vision of making Indonesia a hub for the halal industry on a global scale.
