The Jayapura Regency Government (Pemkab) in Papua is facilitating the implementation of the Baku Timba Festival as a platform to enhance the local community's economy. The Secretary of Jayapura Regency, stated in Sentani that the government is fostering economic self-sufficiency within the community through the Baku Timba Culinary Festival. The Baku Timba Festival serves as a culinary event involving Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) from the Jayapura Regency. There are around 60 culinary entrepreneurs participating in the Baku Timba Festival, the majority of whom come from the Jayapura Regency.
The government also deeply appreciates the remarkable ability of the Indigenous Papua MSMEs in presenting their culinary creations. The culinary booths attracting the most visitors, resulting in long and patient queues, are the ones managed by Indigenous Papua MSMEs. The Indigenous Papua MSME booths are the most crowded, featuring Yanmba Coffee and Hot Cacao from Grimenawa, as well as Papeda Panas and Advokad Kocok from Kanda. A total of 60 MSMEs are participating in the Baku Timba Culinary Festival, which commenced on Friday, August 25, and will conclude on Sunday, September 3. The government aspiration through the Baku Timba Festival is to nurture the creation of new culinary delights by the community. This way, economic growth can be stimulated.
