The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) participation through the Indonesian Pavilion at the World Seafood Shanghai (WSS) 2023 event has successfully documented potential transactions amounting to USD 15.6 million. This achievement has surpassed the set target of USD 10 million. During the three-day international exhibition, KKP showcased 9 selected seafood product exporters out of 92 interested companies under the Indonesian Pavilion. The selection was based on integrity criteria, particularly buyer trust or lack of negative records. The selection was further based on product compatibility with the Chinese market and strong performance in meeting buyer demand. The exhibited products included shrimp, squid, octopus, red snapper, tuna, and tobiko (flying fish roe).
This international exhibition serves as a promotional effort to raise awareness of Indonesian seafood products worldwide. In addition to participation in WSS, The Ministry also engaged in a benchmarking study of port management at Shanghai Changxing Hengsha Fishing Port, the largest fishing port in Shanghai. The KKP delegation also visited the seafood processing facilities of Shanghai Hi-Chain Food Co. Furthermore, they conducted a benchmarking study at Shanghai Brilliant Gum, a seaweed processing company, to understand the application of processing technology in that company. The People's Republic of China (PRC) ranks as Indonesia's second-largest fisheries export destination. The previous year witnessed a 26.3% increase in the value of fishery exports to China, reaching US$ 1.12 billion compared to 2021. On the second day of the exhibition, a memorandum of understanding was signed between PT. Perikanan Indonesia (as one of the Indonesian Pavilion participants) and private company Tiancheng (Shanghai) Supply Chain Service Co., Ltd. regarding Integrated Fisheries Product Business Development. The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries targeted Indonesia's flagship aquaculture commodities to dominate the export market within the next 5 to 10 years.
