Reports indicate that one of Indonesia's palm sugar productions, specifically from Magelang, has successfully made its mark in the Malaysian market. The palm sugar production making its way into the Malaysian market originates from PT Nira Lestari International. This sugar mill is situated in Semen Hamlet, Trenten Village, Candimulyo District, Magelang Regency. The journey to the current status has seen the palm sugar from Magelang face adversity. Its value plummeted in 2013, initially being devalued by middlemen. However, fortune eventually smiled upon the producers. Presently, they have managed to sell palm sugar products at a staggering price of IDR 30 million per ton. Notably, after branding, the value escalated even further to IDR 150 million per ton.

The success of Magelang's palm sugar export owes much to governmental support, primarily from the Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives, and SMEs, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Food Security and Extension Agency, along with export assistance from the Magelang Customs Office. The Head of Magelang Customs Office, expressed during the palm sugar export launch that Customs will continuously strive to uplift SMEs, enabling them to ascend the ladder and market their goods internationally. It's noteworthy to recall that the current number of SMEs in Indonesia has reached 64.2 million, constituting 99.99% of all businesses in the country. However, their contribution to export is only 15.65% when compared to larger enterprises. UMKMs provide a remarkably significant contribution to the nation's economy. This is a role that Customs diligently preserves and enhances. It's in harmony with the duties and functions of this institution as a trade facilitator, contributing to industrial assistance. We are delighted that Magelang's palm sugar products can be exported to neighbouring countries. Furthermore, this exportation is executed directly to Malaysia, without intermediaries.
