Jembrana And The Potential of 3 Thousand Tons of Cocoa

Cocoa is a plantation commodity with a significant role in the national economy. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) records cocoa production in Indonesia at 667,300 tons. This makes Indonesia the world's largest cocoa producer after Ivory Coast and Ghana. Although production is mainly dominated by regions in Sulawesi, several other areas in Indonesia also contribute to the cocoa figures. One such area is the Jembrana Regency in Bali. Jembrana is the regency with the best cocoa yield in Bali. In 2022, Jembrana successfully produced 2,943 tons of cocoa, down from 6,341 tons the previous year and 3,009 tons in 2020. To continually enhance the value added to the cocoa commodity, the Jembrana regency government is constructing a communal cocoa production facility, known as a factory sharing, located in Banjar Peh, Kaliakah Village, Negara District.

This building, which incurs a budget of up to IDR 9.6 billion, is receiving support from the central government and commenced construction in early August, with an estimated completion date in November. The development of this factory sharing is intended to provide a large-scale cocoa processing facility, generating various processed products that will increase the cocoa's market value. The Jembrana Regency has long expanded its reach to the export market, including countries such as the Netherlands, France, China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and the United States. The world has recognized the quality of cocoa from Jembrana, as reflected in the rising demand for the export of fermented cocoa beans. Bali, as an Indonesian tourist destination, offers a wide opportunity for Jembrana to develop its regional potential, particularly in the unique agricultural product of cocoa. The Regent of Jembrana mentions that besides functioning as a cocoa production facility, the existing factory sharing in Bali will also serve as part of the tourism economy in the Jembrana Regency. The chocolate production house is not merely an ordinary place, The Government also aim to incorporate the tourism sector here by providing space for direct observation of cocoa processing, including a café area for cocoa consumption and souvenirs from Jembrana's chocolate products.
