The trade balance of East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim) in July 2023 achieved a surplus of USD 1.3 billion, comprising both oil and gas (migas) and non-migas commodities. This surplus mainly stemmed from the non-migas trade, with a surplus of USD 1.48 billion, offset by the migas sector's deficit of USD 183.02 million as stated by the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of East Kalimantan. She further elaborated that the total value of East Kalimantan's exports in July 2023 decreased by 9.85% compared to June 2023, declining from USD 1.95 billion to USD 1.76 billion. The decrease in July 2023 exports compared to June 2023 was primarily due to a 12.83% drop in the value of non-migas exports.
With non-migas contributing 91.71% to the total exports of Kaltim, this led to an overall reduction in export value, despite a 45% increase in migas exports. The value of non-migas exports in July 2023 was recorded at USD 1.6 billion, lower than the value of non-migas exports in June 2023, which was USD 1.85 billion. Meanwhile, the value of migas exports in July 2023 was recorded at USD 145.81 million, marking an increase from the migas exports in June 2023, which amounted to USD 100.56 million. The rise in migas export value was driven by a 174.67% increase in gas exports, from USD 35.46 million in June to USD 97.40 million in July. In contrast, the value of oil exports decreased by 25.63%, from USD 65.10 million in June 2023 to USD 48.41 million in July 2023. Overall, when compared to July 2022, East Kalimantan's export value dropped by 51.09%, as in July 2022, the export value stood at USD 3.59 billion, which decreased to USD 1.76 billion in July 2023.
