The Indonesian Minister of Trade stated that ASEAN Economic Ministers have convened a meeting with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (A-BAC) to agree upon a number of strategic efforts, including the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem and the implementation of quick response (QR) code payments. The objective is for ASEAN Ministers and ASEAN-BAC to agree on enhancing intra-ASEAN trade and investment, electric vehicle ecosystem, carbon market mobilisation, and regional payment systems through quick response (QR) codes. Apart from these four strategic economic advancements, he added that ASEAN Economic Ministers and ASEAN-BAC have also discussed five ASEAN-BAC priority issues: digital transformation, sustainable development, food security, health resilience, and trade and investment facilitation.
As the Chair of the ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting (AEM) 2023, he emphasised the importance of collaboration with businesses and the provision of internal consultations within each ASEAN member country. According to him, enhancing ASEAN's involvement and collaboration with the business or private sector is a crucial factor in strengthening ASEAN. Meanwhile, the ASEAN-BAC Chair mentioned that in general, the ASEAN Economic Ministers accepted the recommendations brought forth by ASEAN-BAC during the meeting. The ASEAN Economic Ministers acknowledge the presence of a joint committee between the government and the business sector. This is where the public-private partnership occurs, and it is extremely important. Nowadays, nothing can work in isolation. It can be called as ASEAN Incorporated (ASEAN Inc.). Semarang is hosting the series of events for the 55th AEM Meeting and Related Meetings from August 17 to August 22, 2023.
