Adverse weather conditions and raging fires are not stopping the tourist season in Italy, primarily driven by foreign visitors. Foreign tourist numbers have increased by 4 percent during the summer vacations. This is highlighted by Federturismo, the national federation of the travel and tourism industry under Confindustria.
Despite the inflation affecting household budgets, the sector's July numbers remained consistent with the corresponding figures from 2022. For August, the federation predicts an 85 percent occupancy rate in major art cities (Rome, Florence, Venice, and Naples), mainly by foreign tourists, notably Germans, French, and Americans. According to a survey by Enit - the National Tourism Agency, commissioned by Isnart and Unioncamere, there's a 20 percent increase in advance sales for tourist stays in August and September, with a higher average than in 2022: two extra room bookings per ten.
