Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Invites Solar Power Investors from Singapore and China to Invest in Indonesia

The Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) is actively working to attract foreign investors for solar module production and battery storage technology in Indonesia. After discussions with the Singaporean government, both countries have agreed to develop mutually beneficial industries. This collaboration aims to create a supply chain for photovoltaic (PV) industries, allowing Singapore to access green electricity while offering Indonesia higher value-added opportunities and new jobs. Indonesia also plans to involve Chinese companies for their advanced technology and potential as an alternative solar module market.

Vena Energy, a Singapore-based renewable energy company, is partnering with Suntech, Powin, and REPT Battera to explore local production of photovoltaic solar panels and energy storage systems in Indonesia. This initiative aligns with their ambition to export green electricity to Singapore. The project's goal is to establish over 2 GW of solar power capacity and an 8 GWh battery energy storage system on Batam Island, selling the generated electricity to Singapore through Shell Eastern Trading Pte. Over the next three years, Vena Energy will navigate permitting processes, while also beginning the expansion project for solar modules and batteries. Despite not specifying the exact investment value, Vena Energy's CEO, Nitin Apte, anticipates the overall project could amount to billions of dollars.
