Deputy Minister of Trade conducted a working visit to South Sumatra, specifically to Musi Rawas Utara region, to directly observe the coal industry's production. He visited one of the coal mines that has been operating for more than a decade, namely PT. Gorby Putra Utama, located in Musi Rawas Utara regency. During the visit, the Deputy Minister observed the coal production process, and stated that coal is one of the leading export products to foreign countries, which serves as a primary pillar for Indonesia's trade balance and economy. He expressed hope that the coal industry will continue to collaborate and contribute together with the government to achieve a trade surplus. The CEO of PT. Gorby Putra Utama pledged to always be ready and maintain good communication with both the central and regional governments to realize a more advanced and prosperous Indonesian economy, and hope the government will provide legal protection in accordance with existing regulations to ensure uninterrupted production and continued increase in state revenues.
 
Rail freight transportation by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or PT KAI transported a total of 30.7 million tons of goods, marking a 15% increase compared to the first semester of 2022. During the first semester of 2023, KAI's freight transportation was dominated by coal, amounting to 25 million tons or 82% of the total rail freight transportation by KAI. Coal transportation increased by 22% compared to the first semester of 2022, carrying a load of 20.5 million tons. Positive trends were also observed in other commodities such as clinker, retail, crude palm oil (CPO), and others. In the second semester of 2023, KAI will continue to innovate to increase the volume and performance of rail freight transportation. KAI serves various commodities in rail freight transportation, such as containers, coal, cement, fuel, CPO, fertilizers, retail products, and others. Rail freight transportation offers various advantages, such as punctuality, security, large capacity, free from illegal charges, and managed by professional human resources.
