The Ministry of Trade continues to expand the share of Indonesian product exports to Mexico. One of the efforts being undertaken is the organization of the Expo Indonesia en Mexico (EIM) exhibition, which featured the participation of 51 business entities. The EIM exhibition aims to increase non-oil and gas exports and achieve a trade surplus in Indonesia-Mexico bilateral trade. The Ministry of Trade is optimistic that Indonesian exporters can successfully expand their presence in the Mexican market. The EIM exhibition is expected to bring Indonesia towards being a major player in international trade and investment, as well as strengthen Indonesia's nation branding in the Latin American region. As a multiplier effect of this reputation, Indonesia is anticipated to become a credible trading partner and reliable supplier of products and services in the eyes of buyers. The organization of the EIM exhibition also commemorates the 70-year bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Mexico. During the last five years (2018-2022), Indonesia's non-oil and gas exports to Mexico have grown by 15.86%, from USD 893.3 million to USD 1.59 billion. In the period from January to May 2023, the national non-oil and gas exports to Mexico amounted to USD 730.3 million, a 12.01% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
The main export commodities from Indonesia to Mexico include motor vehicles and their spare parts, footwear, active electronic integrated circuits, car tires, natural rubber, paper products, and jewelry. Mexico is one of the potential markets for Indonesian products as Indonesia-Mexico trade balance in the period from January to May 2023 recorded a surplus of USD 606.4 million. Furthermore, as part of the diversification effort in the Mexican market, the Ministry of Trade also held meetings with COMCE (Consenjo Empresarial Mexicano de Comercio Exterior, Inversión y Tecnología), an organization responsible for promoting foreign trade, foreign investment, and technological development in Mexico.
