The South Sulawesi Provincial Government has launched the export of 36 superior commodities worth IDR 1.43 trillion. The total weight of the exported commodities reached 49,960 tons, with the highest quantity of commodities including nickel, seaweed, furniture, carrageenan, porang, and liquid cocoa. This export involved 82 exporters, each of whom already has a market presence in several countries. This time, the export was represented by 8 business entities, namely PT. Huady Nickel Alloy Indonesia (Fero Nickel Product) for China; CV. Adi Tirta (Seaweed Product) for China; Koperasi Kospermindo (Seaweed Product) for Vietnam; PT. Maruki Internasional Indonesia (Butsudan/Furniture Product) for Japan; PT. Rahmat Bahri Indonesia (Seaweed Product) for China; PT. Gusti Aroma Atsiri Celebes (Porang Chip Product) for China; PT. Biota Laut Ganggang (Carrageenan Product) for China; PT. Mars Symbioscience Indonesia (Cocoa Liquor Product) for Australia.
Some commodities have been regular export items, such as porang from Bulukumba, which is regularly shipped to China. In addition, nickel has been a mainstay commodity supporting the economy of South Sulawesi. Currently, South Sulawesi has exported more than 250 commodities and flagship products, including fisheries, agriculture, industrial products, and mining products. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the region's export value in the first semester of 2023 reached USD 1.12 billion, showing a growth of 17.37% compared to the same period of the previous year. Nickel remains the largest driving commodity for exports, recording a value of USD 658.97 million and experiencing a growth of 16.73% compared to the first semester of 2022. Apart from nickel, the other major contributing export commodities are iron and steel at USD 186.72 million and oilseeds at USD 113.79 million.
