Batik industry is a labour-intensive sector that has provided employment opportunities to millions of people. Minister of Industry is optimistic that the performance of the batik industry will continue to grow, and in the effort to develop the batik industry, collaboration from various parties is needed, including associations, entrepreneurs, designers, academics, e-commerce platforms, and influencers, to develop, introduce, and promote the rich potential of domestic batik.

Nusantara batik has distinct advantages and high competitiveness due to its innovative motifs, designs, and patterns that are based on local wisdom. Currently, there are four Geographic Indications for Batik, namely Batik Tulis Nitik Yogyakarta, Batik Besurek Bengkulu, Sarung Batik Pekalongan, and Batik Tulis Complongan Indramayu. Geographic indications for batik serve as a form of protection for the intellectual property or motifs that are characteristic of a specific region. Promoting the tradition of wearing batik is a way to honour local wisdom. Moreover, batik possesses high artistic value, making it suitable for various occasions, both formal and casual. The Gelar Batik Nusantara 2023 event was organised by the Indonesian Batik Foundation and featured participation from over 250 exhibitors. The Ministry of Industry also fully supports batik industry players who have transformed their practices towards environmentally-friendly industries. To enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia's batik industry, the Ministry of Industry encourages the adoption of environmentally-friendly batik production processes. This includes creating efficiency in the use of raw materials, energy, and water, leading to the reduction of waste. This effort is in line with the implementation of green industry principles, which supports the concept of a sustainable economy.
