The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Bengkulu Province's trade balance throughout 2023 achieved a surplus of USD 144.25 million or approximately IDR 2.177 trillion based on the exchange rate on August 1, 2023. The trade surplus of Bengkulu Province in June 2023 reached USD 22.82 million. Meanwhile, the trade surplus for January to June 2023 amounted to USD 144.25 million. Despite Bengkulu's export experiencing a decline of 34.57% from USD 34.88 million in May to USD 22.82 million in June 2023, the trade balance surplus of Bengkulu continued to increase. In May 2023, the trade balance surplus was recorded at USD 121.43 million. This is due to the fact that, throughout 2023, there have been no recorded imports through Bengkulu's entry points, such as its ports or airport. Only Bengkulu's exports have been recorded until June, thus resulting in a trade balance surplus of USD 144.25 million.
From September 2021 to June 2023, there have been no imported goods to Bengkulu. The highest import value during 2021 occurred in March, recorded at USD 0.44 million, followed by August 2021 at USD 0.41 million. On the other hand, the highest monthly trade balance occurred in April 2022, amounting to a surplus of USD 42.18 million. Subsequently, in October 2022, there was a surplus of USD 35.06 million, and in May 2023, a surplus of USD 34.88 million. On the other hand, the lowest trade balance occurred in January 2022, which recorded a surplus of USD 4.42 million. Regarding exports, BPS observed that Bengkulu's exports remain optimistic throughout 2023, despite experiencing a decline in June 2023. In January 2023, Bengkulu's exports were recorded at USD 6.75 million, followed by an increase to USD 21.93 million in February. In March 2023, Bengkulu's exports were recorded at USD 25.26 million, followed by USD 32.60 million in April, and USD 34.88 million in May. The figure for June showed a decline to USD 22.82 million.
