Bank Indonesia has revealed that West Sumatra Province has promising potential in the green economy, considering the region's economic growth. The Head of Bank Indonesia's West Sumatra Representative Office, stated that West Sumatra's economic performance in the first quarter of 2023 experienced a growth acceleration of 4.80% (yoy). This development is primarily driven by the industrial and trade sectors. West Sumatra's economic progress remains stable, evident from well-controlled prices. On an annual basis, West Sumatra's inflation rate also remains within the national target range of 3% to 1% (yoy), reaching 2.95% (yoy). Furthermore, the urgency of implementing the green economy concept in West Sumatra to achieve a balanced economic development and sustainable livelihoods for the community.
Strengthening the agricultural sector, increasing investments in green projects, developing the quality of human resources, and supporting green MSMEs can be strategic approaches to drive West Sumatra's green economy. One of these efforts has been concretely implemented by Bank Indonesia in West Sumatra through supporting agricultural and green MSME clusters with environmentally friendly business practices. In addition, to support green finance, Bank Indonesia has formulated and implemented Green Macroprudential Intermediation Ratios and Green Loan to Value in the activities of financial institutions. Meanwhile, West Sumatra's potential in the green economy can be further developed, given its abundant natural resources, including renewable energy sources such as solar energy, geothermal energy, and hydropower, as well as vast forest areas. Therefore, the implementation of the green economy will be a collective effort, already accommodated in various regulations of the West Sumatra Provincial Government. One such regulation is the West Sumatra Governor Regulation No. 45 of 2013 concerning the Province's Strategy and Action Plan in Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation.
